The fact that "We Will Become Silhouettes" by the Postal Service is about the aftermath of a nuclear fallout is way too depressing for words. Thanks for crushing all my hopes, Molly! :-P Only kidding, of course, but it's still pretty sad. It makes sense now that I listen to the lyrics again. I mean, hello:

I've got a cupboard with cans of food,
filtered water, and pictures of you
and I'm not coming out until this is all over.
And I'm looking through the glass
Where the light bends at the cracks
And I'm screaming at the top of my lungs
Pretending the echoes belong to someone
Someone I used to know

And we become silhouettes when our bodies finally go
ba ba ba ba

I wanted to walk through the empty streets
And feel something constant under my feet,
But all the news reports recommended that I stay indoors
Because the air outside will make
Our cells divide at an alarming rate
Until our shells simply cannot hold
All our insides in,
And that's when we'll explode
(And it won't be a pretty sight)

And we become silhouettes when our bodies finally go
ba ba ba ba

Only the Postal Service could turn a subject like that into a romantic-sounding song. I'm still going to say that he is comparing it to a love situation, just in a crazy way. Or maybe I've been in English lit classes too much and need to stop reading so deeply into symbolism and whatnot. *sigh*

Armstrong told me he doesn't think I should go into journalism. Tell me something I don't know, ha. But I didn't cry! Major points for me because I really thought I was going to lose it. But I held it together! And, if you know Armstrong, that's pretty damned impressive, if I do say so myself. :-D

Life is still interesting and random and crazy and amazing and beautiful. Sometimes you just have to look for it.

I think eating all those pumpkin seeds may have been a mistake, lol. My stomach's not feelin' so good.

There are a couple options for what to put on my AudAshJess shirt.:

* Who knows, man.
* Life is too short to not let your freak flag fly.

Whatever other crazy random laidback phrase I've used recently is also in the running.

10:17 shall forever live in infamy -- Frasier theme song and all.

Life is pretty damn good right now.

PS: "In the Meantime" by the Ditty Bops is basically my theme song.

PPS: Gavin Degraw's lyrics, "Sometimes our only way is jumpin' / Hope you're not afraid of heights" are really awesome, too.

Oh, life, you are so crazy sometimes.

I reiterate what I said the other day when I say that I am one happy chick.

"Maybe when I'm done with thinking / Maybe you can think me whole / Maybe when I'm done with endings / This can begin." -- Something Corporate

I couldn't have said it better myself.

After trying to make a joke and failing miserably, Devon said, "Sometimes when you can't come up with a joke right away, it's better not to come up with something for the hell of it." I love that quote -- so simple, but so true.

I think I might be in bed by midnight tonight, guys, how exciting! That hasn't happened since last week! :-D

I'm watching The Situation Room on CNN (it's for Armstrong's class, we don't have a textbook, so we have to watch newscasts), and it really bothers me to no end that Bush can't pronounce "nuclear." Someone needs to tell him the correct way. How has no one told him yet? Seriously. Doesn't  he have people there that are supposed to keep an ear out for these things?

Okay, no more procrastination. I am so totally focused on doing these article reviews for News/Feature Reporting. So focused.

Just don't mention Brendon Urie. Mmm, Brendon Urie.

Dammit.

Okay, totally focused again. For serious this time. ;)

Emo Journal?

I just noticed that LJ even changed the little guy icon that appears next to user names. I guess it's supposed to be hair, but it looks like an emo swoop. Or maybe it's the pirate theme I think they have for today or something? Perhaps it's an eyepatch. B/c instead of just "Update," it says "Update Captain's Log." Tricky LJ. Yeah, that's all this entry's about, lol.

My dad got me Rebel Without a Cause on DVD! Hooray! Molly, add it to the list. ;)

So far, this is the extensive list (and I'm sure that I'm going to forget several of the movies/shows).
- The Hunger
-
the TV romance movie with Kiefer
- Labyrinth
- the Back to the Future trilogy
- Brokeback Mountain
- various seasons of "Arrested Development"

I can't remember any others right now. I'm just super-excited about Rebel. :D

Is it just me, or is TomKat's baby kinda scary-lookin'?

Looks much older than just like 4 months. She doesn't have a typical baby-ish face. Kinda freaks me out, lol.

The Format makes my feet dance, my hands clap, and my heart sing. They truly have a piece of my heart and I cannot wait to see them again tomorrow night with Aud and Jessi. Just seeing those girls is going to rock, but add the Format to the mix, and, well, you get the point. [Wow, there were a lot of commas in that sentence.]

I've decided that one of the many secrets of life is late night trips to IHOP after an amazing concert, then drinking 3 full glasses of water before you even order your food, eating 2 of pretty much everything, talking about embarassing moments from middle school [Alyse's stories never get old], discussing who your get-out-of-jail-free cards are [there are too many to choose from -- but James Dean tops the list ;)], and then feeling like you're going to die b/c your stomach was so empty and now it's so full.

But it's all so incredibly worth it. Life is good great phenomenally, extraordinarily, fantastic right now.

I have a new love in my life.

It's the Fluffer Nutter fudge at Goofy's Candy Company. I've never seen it before and I was very excited. Especially since I get a discount -- heck yessss. And the white chocolate raspberry cookie is delicious as well. Mmmm...

Question of the day . . .

Q:What do Parker Posey and Kevin Spacey have in common?

A:They're the only reason I have any desire to see the new Superman movie. I friggin' love Parker Posey, and I think Kevin Spacey is awesome, too. The new Superman? Not so much. But they'd be worth it.

In other news, I'm getting a cold and I'm wicked tired and I have to go to work again from 6-1:30 in the morning tonight. Bleh.

My favorite ironic moment of the night (quite possibly of the year): Britney Spears being interviewed by Matt Lauer in a full hour special "Britney Spears: Speaking Out" edition of Dateline (must've been a slow news day), trying to defend that she's not a redneck -- and chewing gum with her mouth open. Then she sort of mocked the "Bible Belt" and went on to say, "It's just cruel when people stereotype." And, Britney, you would call what you just did . . .? Yeah, I thought so.

Favorite moment of the night: Seeing Karla's mom laugh hysterically for the first time (I've never seen her laugh so hard), and having it be at the fact that when asked how far along she is, Britney answered, "Oh, I dunno, 6, 7 months?" Umm . . . I don't believe that Ms. Spears is familiar with something I like to call "math." Didn't she just announce this pregnancy a month ago, when she was 3 or 4 months along? Oh man. But it was worth seeing Mom Stearns laugh and almost have to spit out the popcorn she was eating, hah.

Favorite quote of the night: When I dropped a piece of popcorn on the floor in Karla's room, I just bent over and picked it up and ate it anyway. Then I was like, "Wow, you know we're close when I eat food that's fallen on your floor." Is it vain that my favorite quote was one of mine? Hehe. :-P

PS -- Only in Orlando: I was driving home and was on the road that goes to my house when I looked in my rearview mirror and saw the fireworks from Disney, lol.

PPS -- I got a cute little notebook that I can use after church and youth group. I've been wanting to get one to take notes and jot down prayers and thoughts, and I finally got one. I'm really excited. Hopefully I'll stick with it, though, b/c I sometimes write for like 3 days in a row, then get tired of it, lol.

Help, please!

I have a few songs on my computer that I can't listen to b/c they're in the m4a format, the iTunes version. Does anyone know of a way that I can change them to mp3? They're David Bowie songs, so they're of the utmost importance! Thank you in advance!

So, I had a dilemma . . .

Okay. I saw the tour dates for the Format. I had a heart attack when I saw that they'd be at House of Blues, the one 10 minutes from my house. I definitely almost died when I saw what day -- July 27. The high schoolers' church trip that I volunteered to help at is the week of July 23-28. Ahhhhh. All their FL dates are that week!

Crisis resolved with the help of my best friend: I'll go to the middle schoolers' trip instead, b/c that's the week before (and, in my opinion from working so much with the kids a couple years ago, I think it'll be more fun).

Hello, there is absolutely no way that I'd miss the freaking Format. Uhh, no. I'm going. Who's with me!?! [major hint to Tiffany and Molly and Aud ;)] I'm not sure yet, Stephanie, if I'm going to the Jax show, too. If I did, I just may have to crash at Jessi's place (hint hint, Jessi, lol). So yeah. YAYAYAYAYAYAY THE FORMAT!

In other Format-related news, I met a really cool chick at work today (my first day, it was alright). We were talking about shows and bands and I said, "Well, I love the Format." And she goes, "Ah, I love the Format!" I was like, "And we're now best friends," lol. And she loves Queen <3. So yeah, she seems awesome. I really love the socializing and meeting new friends at work.

Work from 3:30-midnight tomorrow at DisneyQuest and 3:30-midnight at the Candy Cauldron on Friday. I still don't have a schedule for next week. Bastards. I wish I wouldn't get screwed over so dang much. Ah well.

The Format in less than 2 months! :D
thanks to <lj user= "xoxogoodbye">
I got really excited a little while ago b/c I remembered that the Format is announcing the first half of their tour tomorrow.

That's all. :-D

PS -- I think the Format may own my heart. If not, then they definitely have some huge pieces of the property.

My copy-editing has reached a completely new level: I just noticed a misspelled word in the fine print disclaimer on the bottom of a TV commercial. It was for the GNC Wellness store, I guess they're having a sale. It said, "Buy one at th regular price . . ." How do you leave the "e" out of "the?" And then no one notices? This is a national commercial, people! Anal grammar-loving people like me catch this stuff!

Today I had to buy *shudder* black sneakers and black socks for work. I had to get *gulp* a black pair of those old-school Princess Reebok sneakers. UGH. Why me?? Although there is a new color of Chucks out there -- a really pretty shade of a mango-ish orange. So pretty.

But in addition to the black sneakers (bleh), I also got a cute pair of penny loafers/dock-siders or what have you. I never would've seen myself getting them, but they're actually pretty cute. They're not totally slip-ons, but the back is low enough that I guess they technically are. I already imagine myself in a polo shirt, khaki bermuda shorts and those shoes. But my collar will not be popped. Just to clarify that. I am completely anti-popped collar.

That's all for now. I have Urban Adventure tomorrow, which is when I "explore" [read: walk around -- ah, Disney] Downtown Disney (as if I haven't done that at least twice a month for the past 10 years, lol). So yeah, that should be . . . interesting. I get my costume. Ugh. Oh well. Could be worse, could be wearing a bowtie and suspenders and a jaunty hat (a la Molly at MGM). :-P

I officially love Mix 105.1

  • May. 27th, 2006 at 9:40 PM
thanks to <lj user= "xoxogoodbye">
On the way home from Karla's Dad's surprise birthday party, Mix 105.1 (Orlando's mix of 80s, 90s, and today) played the Dinosaur song that goes, "Open the door - get on the floor - everybody walk the dinosaur." I am totally not kidding (as Molly and I were saying about all these "Fast and the Furious" movies -- look for "We Are So Not Joking This Time, Guys, We Drive Really Freaking Fast And, Actually, Surprisingly Furiously, Too -- No Lie" Summer 2007).

They actually played the Dinosaur song. And I started dancing, which made my mom laugh b/c I was really getting down with my bad self. Until I realized that at the end of the song the guy kills the dinosaur. Then sings, "Everybody kill the dinosaur." Dear God! What violence is this in my 80s dance break? I was appalled. Sadly, it did not hamper my dance moves. How insensitive am I? :-P

Wow, Stephen just called -- he's at his friend's bachelor party that's taking place at a strip club. He bought tickets for the raffle. I was like, "What the crap can you win?" And he said beer or something. I'd be afraid of whatever prize I might get. He already said a chick named Cupcake asked if he wanted to go to the backroom, lol. He said no and then she asked him for a dollar. He said "No, that's ok." He makes me laugh, haha. Here's a picture of he and I at Gatorland, just 'cause.

Oh -- he bought us tickets for "Avenue Q!" Yay! I'm wicked psyched. Woot woot!

Well that's about it for now. I leave you with a picture of Karla and I pretending to drink at Fiddler's Green in Winter Park (where they had her dad's party). The funny thing is that the bottle I'm holding is empty anyway, lol.

PS -- Stephen just texted me. He won sex dominoes. I have no idea how those work. Just the thought is slightly disturbing. Perhaps I've seen them at the Fairvilla Megastore that Karla and I have visited (more than once, lol) at Cocoa Beach? Hmm. Things to ponder. :-P

I honestly almost ran off the road on the way home. It was the road leading to my neighborhood though, not a main highway or anything. The cause of this, you might wonder?

"The Compromise" by the Format. OHMYGODITITSUCHANAMAZINGSONG!

I saw that track 10 was coming up and I was like, "I know that this track number is my favorite song, but I can't remember which one it is." Then it started and I had a slight huge freak-out attack. I started dancing and actually clapping along.

I've never actually shaken my head just b/c the music is so awesome. But I was sitting there swaying, clapping, and dancing to that song. God, it is beyond words. I can only imagine what my fellow drivers must have thought as they passed me, lol.

In other news, the new touch-sensitive registers are so ridiculously easy. Honestly, guys, I can't even express to you how simple they are. If you ever had to work with the old clunker machines, you'd understand. These new registers are like heaven.

I'm having Alyse buy me one of the super-cute Alice in Wonderland tote bags that they have at Virgin. I figured that I'd wait to get one till I worked there, but since that whole thing fell through (ugh), I'm having her get me one b/c Virgin employees get a 40% discount. I'm so excited, those bags are so adorable. Yay!

I keep listening to the Format album b/c I want to be able to sing along to every song. If you're in my car anytime soon, don't expect to listen to anything else. :P

Did I mention that Stephen and I are going to NYC when I go up to RI in July? AHHHHH! I've never been there, so I'm so crazy-excited. And it'll be like our first little vacation together as a couple. :D He already reserved us a room at a hotel in Times Square, across from the TKTS place. And he wants me to pick a Broadway show. I'm leaning toward "Avenue Q," but I'm open to almost anything. Ahh! I can't wait!
